Jack and Gabe’s relationship is so interesting even when you remove the romance and just have them be friends for the entirety of Overwatch’s existance. Jack being with Vincent during the Omnic crisis and breaking up with him some time after he became strike commander and Gaberiel marrying after Overwatch is officially established. Neither one of them making a move so they don’t infringe on the other’s relationship.
I really like this idea of them just being best friends who grew apart. Unable to properly communicate with each other without their egos getting in the way. No longer being able to understand each other’s point of view and logic. Trust waning the less they talked. Until the best case scenario for them is accepting that they’ll never have what they once did during the crisis.
